Program Goals and Objectives

One Physics aims to be a national leader in providing high quality clinical medical physics services. Part of this commitment to clinical leadership is exemplified through training the next generation of high quality clinical medical physicists through a Medical Physics Residency program.  The Therapy Residency Program at One Physics – West Ohio (and its Affiliate Sites) is designed to prepare MS or PhD graduates for a career in Medical Physics in the sub-specialty of Radiation Therapy Physics. This 24 month training program is also designed to help prepare the Resident for the ABR Board Certification process.

Program History

  • The One Physics – West Ohio Residency program was launched in 2020 (as the Spectrum Medical Physics (SMP) Residency Program) in an attempt to help close the gap between the number of graduating Medical Physics Students and the number of CAMPEP Accredited Residency Programs.
  • The Program received its initial CAMPEP Accreditation in 2021 and initially intended to admit one Resident each year for a nominal summer start.
  • In 2023 SMP was able to expand the program to a total of 4 Program Staff and 3 residents.
  • In 2024 Spectrum Medical Physics became an Apex Physics Partner (now rebranded as One Physics).
  • In June 2024, the Program applied for CAMPEP Accreditation of an Affiliate Site in Youngstown, OH. The initial intent is to admit one resident into the Youngstown Affiliate Site every other year.
  • In January, 2025 One Physics – Youngstown (OH) welcomed their first resident into the program
